Annex: Detailed Description of Paradise

The following annex compiles additional descriptions of Paradise from Quranic verses and hadith references, adapted from: https://www.shariahprogram.ca/articles/paradise-heaven-description.shtml

1) The Gates of Paradise

• Paradise has gates opened for the righteous.
• It is described as having eight gates, and one of them is Ar-Rayyan for those who fast.
• Believers are welcomed at the gates with greetings of peace and everlasting entry.

“Gardens of perpetual bliss - they shall enter them…” (13:23)
“Garden of eternity, whose doors will always be open to them.” (38:49-50)
“Its gates will be opened… Peace be upon you! … enter it, abiding in it eternally.” (39:73)

2) What No Human Has Imagined

• Paradise contains what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no heart has fully conceived.
• Even the smallest portion of Paradise is described as better than the entire world.

“I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen and no ear has heard…”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Muslim; also reflected in 32:17)

3) Rivers and Springs of Paradise

• The Quran describes rivers of:
  • pure water
  • milk whose taste never changes
  • wine delightful to drink (without intoxication)
  • pure honey
• Paradise also contains fountains and named springs such as Tasneem and Salsabeel.

“In it are rivers of water… milk… wine… and honey.” (47:15)
“A mixture of Tasneem…” (83:27-28)
“A fountain there, called Salsabeel.” (76:18)

4) Gardens, Trees, and Shade

• Paradise is described with abundant gardens, fruit, flowing water, and cooling shade.
• Trees are so vast that a rider could travel in their shade for a very long time.
• Fruits are within easy reach and never unavailable.

“The fruit of the gardens will be hanging near.” (55:54)
“In shade long-extended, by water flowing constantly, and fruit in abundance…” (56:30-33)

5) Atmosphere and Social Life

• No fatigue, grief, hostility, or harmful speech remains in Paradise.
• People greet each other with peace.
• There are reports of a weekly gathering/market where beauty and joy increase.

“They will hear no bad speech.” (88:11)
“Peace! - a word of salutation from a Lord Most Merciful.” (36:58)

6) Clothing, Food, and Dwellings

• Garments of silk and adornments of gold/silver are mentioned.
• Food and drink are provided in abundance without harm.
• Dwellings, pavilions, and elevated stations are described for the people of Paradise.

“Their garments therein will be silk.” (22:23)
“Eat and drink with full satisfaction…” (69:24)

7) Levels and Ranks

• Paradise has many levels, and deeds affect rank.
• The highest station is Al-Firdaws, and believers are encouraged to ask Allah for it.

“Paradise has one hundred grades…” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
“Look how We have bestowed more on some than on others; in the hereafter is greater difference in rank…” (17:21)

8) Everlasting Life and the Greatest Reward

• Life in Paradise is eternal: no death, illness, fatigue, or decline.
• Beyond all material blessings, the greatest reward is Allah’s pleasure.

“Abiding in it eternally.” (2:82 and many other verses)
“But the pleasure of Allah is greatest.” (9:72)
